The JoGo Project returns to Mezz on May 15!

The JoGo Project is led by international saxophonist/pianist Elijah Jamal Balbed, A former Chuck Brown protégé, he is one of the District’s premiere jazz artists, having won the 2020 DC Jazz Prix Competition and earned the titles of Best Tenor Saxophonist and Best New Jazz Musician from CoWashington City Paper. Balbed has been featured by Capital Bop, Smithsonian Magazine and The Washington Post. He has performed at The Kennedy Center, Strathmore, Bethesda Blues & Jazz and Bohemian Caverns with numerous ensembles performing various styles of jazz.  The upcoming Mezzanotte show highlights include the old jazz standard “Poinciana” by Nat Simon and made famous by Ahmad Jamal. The JoGo Project flips the song’s classic beat and puts a “Go-Go Swing” groove under it, in the style of Chuck Brown and Grover Washington. (The tune is featured on JoGo’s 2018 EP entitled “One For Pops.”) A JoGo fan favorite, Bob Marley’s classic “Wait in Vain,” begins with a Go-Go groove before harkening back to its roots with a captivating reggae groove.  This is an indoor show with 1 seating only, door open at 5:00 and Showtime is 6:00.  Full Food and Drink Menus are available during each show. instant seats HERE. .

Round Up for The Food Project!

We believe in proactive partnerships that lift our community. We know that when everyone works together, we can make a difference. In that spirit, we will add (and match) fifty cents to each check as a donation to U Empower of Maryland, and its flagship program: The Food Project (a youth and resource center in Southwest Baltimore City that provides a safe space for teenagers, education about food systems and healthy eating, provides meals to 500 local residents every week, offers job training and placement programs, houses and nurtures local social enterprises, and provides mental health and mentorship programs).

While we encourage everyone to do their own research about GMOs and whether they are worth the potential health risks, We strongly support the GMO Labeling movement.
